I'd been teasing on my twitter that my September Pop In A Box was a good one, so here it is, finally! And, I'm finally now caught up to date on these Pop In A Box reviews so I can keep them fairly constant and on time. I'm already excited to see what October will bring!
Now, this is the first month that my Pops came separately, so I had to hang tight on sharing the first one with everyone, despite being dying to show him off! He is definitely one of my favourites from my collection now, and I'm so happy to get another exclusive courtesy of PiaB! (They're great for that kind of thing.)
The Lootcrate exclusive Doc Brown is one I was eyeing up while ordering my first Zbox (and a few other bits) from Zavvi. I decided against getting him for the time being as I was waiting on payday, so, I was super excited and happy to open him up when he arrived from PiaB! Must have been serendipity!
On the back of his box, you can see the other Back to the Future themed Pops available. While the regular Doc is pretty cute too, and in his iconic look from the movie, I much prefer this one as his crazy goggle-eyes are adorable, and it's nice to see him 'at work'!
Plus, I already have the Dorbz version of Marty, so it gives me an excuse to add the Dorbz Doc to my wishlist instead as he's in his lab coat too (I don't like owning too many toys of one character that look samey in the way of pose/outfits/colours etc!)
As always, the details are fantastic. I love the electricity effect, those goggles, and even his little shoes have nice detailing to them. Overall, a really cute figure - one I'm definitely happy to have and excited to display!
A few days later, my second figure arrived - another Dorbz! I've ended up with loads of these now, through no real intention of my own, but I'm not complaining!
I love Futurama, but I prefer how the Dorbz versions of the characters look over the Pops. The cute, smug expressions just seem to work better for them.
And Leela definitely looks smug!
Though Leela in the show is tall and athletic, the chubby, cutesy look of her Dorbz figure is way more appealing than the kinda freaky, skinny Pop figure.
(Sadly a lot of female Pop figures have this weird look to them - I much prefer the chunkier ones, they seem more worthy of the usual £9.99 and up price tag!)
Again, there's some great detailing here, on her gun and that fabulous chunky ponytail!
I've stated before that I'm not picky at all when it comes to what I collect, but I can see why some people might be looking at this figure - there are some odd 'flaws', if you can even call them that, from the manufacturing on this one - on her ear and that piece of hair, you can see the connecting lines.
I don't really care, but I've seen other collectors go nuts over this kind of thing.
On the side of the box, you can see the other Futurama Dorbz in the set.
I already have a Dr. Zoidberg (the 'alternate timeline' blue Pop vinyl version), and a Kidrobot Bender, but I think I'd be happy with any of these too. Definitely the Fry to go with Leela. I think they're actually a really cute couple, and Fry's a lovable dork.
So that's it for September! A nice pair of futuristic figures to add to my collection.
Who did you like best?
